Toji Temple - Kyoto, Japan

To-ji Temple is a grand temple complex and even host the largest flea market (Kobo-san) in the city of Kyoto. It is on the 21st of every month. To-ji Temple literally means "East Temple" and was established in 796. This is two years after the capital of Japan moved to Heian-kyo (Kyoto) and was one of the three Buddhist Temples that were allowed in the city at the time. It is the only one of the three that still stands today. The pagoda that stands there is the tallest wooden tower in Tokyo at 54.8 meters tall. It is also Unesco Heritage Site! Anyways enjoy the photos!

You can easily walk to Toji Temple from Kyoto Station if you wanted to, I did but if not get off at the Toji Station off the Kintesu Railway Kyoto Line and head west.

You can see the top of the Pagoda from afar above the trees!

This is the Kodo Hall that was added in 825 by Kobo Daishi which acted as the lecture hall.

The building that is standing to the left of Kodo Hall is Kondo Hall, which is the temples main hall. There is a large Yakushi Buddha.

There are only a few days a year that the actual pagoda is opened for people to go inside. I did not get the chance to enter the pagoda but when you stand next to it, it is really tall!

Hope everyone gets a chance to stop by here!
